![]() Where's Ross Perot when we need him?

USA Today today writes of the "fiscal hurricane," a Federal budget train wreck on the very near horizon, the result of demographics and an out of control budget. "We face a demographic tsunami," says the comptroller general of the Unite States, David Walker. "Without major spending cuts, tax increases or both, the national debt will grow more than $3 trillion through 2010, to $11.2 trillion - nearly $38,000 for every man, woman and child. The interest alone would cost $561 billion in 2010, the same as the Pentagon," the article claims. A bi-partisan partisan group, led by Walker and including former Clinton budget director Leon Panetta and the Heritage Foundation's Stuart Butler, has been traveling the nation together on a "Fiscal Wake Up Tour." Alice Rivlin, former director of the Congressional Budget Office and currently at the Brookings Institute, worries that the message is not getting through to the American public. "I sometimes think, 'Where's Ross Perot when we need him?'"
